Representative Pat Wilson Pheanious Recently Toured Southbury Training School STS

Representative Pat Wilson Pheanious recently toured Southbury Training School (STS) to meet the residents, learn about their daily activities and observe the campus grounds.

Representative Wilson Pheanious and Day Program Supervisor, Donna Munson, discuss a dog biscuit program at STS where residents create dog treats that are packaged and sold in the area. Residents not only bake the biscuits but assist with packaging, delivering and selling them throughout the southwest region of Connecticut. Residents participate in a variety of employment opportunities on and off the campus, including mail courier services and the gathering and selling of fresh eggs.

On the tour, Representative Wilson Pheanious was able to experience a “calming” room available to residents that may benefit from some quiet time. The dimly lit room includes soft music, mirrored objects, cushioned seating and other tranquil items to create a comfortable and soothing experience.

Along with arts and crafts, puzzles and indoor activities,  residents can also utilize the fitness center, participate in the farm program, garden or take part in community outings.
