Passing/No Passing Zones
Passing zones on two-lane roads may improve traffic operations by providing a safe area for traffic to pass slow-moving vehicles. Incorrect use, however, can reduce safety if drivers travel above the posted speed limit or make unexpected moves.
OSTA is authorized to establish No Passing Zones on State highways and a Local Traffic Authority may, in accordance with standards approved by the OSTA, set no passing zones on local streets.
Requests to install, remove, or modify a passing zone must come from the Local Traffic Authority of the town.
