An informational meeting regarding intersection improvements on CT Route 66 at Middle Haddam Road and Payne Boulevard will be held by the Department of Transportation on Thursday, August 7, at 7:00 pm, at the Town of Portland Public Library, 20 Freestone Avenue, Portland Connecticut. ConnDOT Personnel will be available after the presentation to answer questions.

Beginning September, 2008, American Industries, Inc. will begin preliminary construction activity on Route 66 at the intersections of Middle Haddam Road and Payne Boulevard that will affect traffic.

Preliminary work to be performed includes the relocation of existing utilities to accommodate the new alignment of the Route 66 intersection. The project also includes widening of Route 66 for left turn lanes, along with a new traffic signal installation, and drainage upgrades.

The work will require lane and shoulder closures to be used at various times starting in the beginning of September, 2008. Construction signs, traffic cones, and local police will be utilized during lane closures.

One traffic lane must be maintained in each direction as follows:

- On Route 66 between the hours of 6:00 am and 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm.

-                           On all other roadways and drives between the hours of 6:00 am and 9:00 am & between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Expected project completion is June 2009. It is anticipated that the improvement work will cost approximately $949,038.
