Newington, Connecticut – The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the next Speed Change Lane Project for I-95 has started between Exits 11 and 13 in the Town of Darien.  The speed change lanes are located where interchanges are closely spaced in order to provide an additional length for the acceleration and deceleration of vehicles entering or exiting the highway.

The improvements will provide:

·         1800 foot lane I-95 north from Interchange 11 on ramp to Interchange 12 off ramp

·         1500 feet lane I-95 south from Interchange 12 on ramp to Interchange 11 off ramp

·         1300 foot lane I-95 north from Interchange 13 on ramp to Interchange 13 off ramp

The contract was awarded to Guerrera Construction of Oxford, CT at a cost of $14,999,995.00 on April 28, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed in September 2009.  

Traffic may experience delays as follows:

Interstate 95

Monday –Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.  No weekend lane closures are allowed during the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Route 1, Ledge Road, and the entrance to Darien Rail Station

Monday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Weekends from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Old Kings Highway South

Monday - Friday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekends 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. 

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and precede with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
