NEWINGTON, Conn. - State Transportation Commissioner Joseph F. Marie announced today that routine Bridge Safety Inspection work will be performed on I-95 (northbound) between Exits 83 and 85 between New London and Groton over the Thames River (Gold Star Memorial Bridge) which will entail closure of the left lane and shoulder. This project is scheduled to take place between Monday October 20 and Friday October 24, 2008.
Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to close the left lane and shoulder of the bridge. Four lanes and the right shoulder will remain open during this inspection. The regular work schedule for this project is 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work area.
