Daytime Blasting Operation Scheduled to Start on November 24, at the Intersection of Route 10 and Westwoods Road in Hamden
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that traffic will be halted for up to ten minute intervals along Route 10 and Westwoods Road to allow for a blasting operation to remove rock in the construction area.
The work is scheduled to start on November 24 and continue for about two months until all the rock is removed for the roadway realignment. Motorists can expect traffic delays due as a result of blasting operations between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. No blasting will occur on Thursday, November 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The rock removal is part of the contract work for the realignment of Westwoods Road with the existing Mount Carmel Avenue at the Route 10 intersection. The contract includes full reconstruction of Westwoods Road and Mount Carmel Avenue and the resurfacing of Route 10. The contract was awarded to DeRita Const. Co. Inc., Middletown , CT on June 29, 2009, at a value of $5,328,832.50 and is scheduled for completion by Fall of 2011.
