Pavement Preservation Project to Begin November 2, 2009 on Route 2 East and West in the Towns of Colchester and Lebanon

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of a milling and resurfacing project on Route 2 in the town of Colchester from the junction of Route 11 to the Bozrah town line. The project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The project consists of the milling and resurfacing of the travel lanes, new line striping, rumble strips, and replacement of bridge joints.   A weigh-in-motion sensor system, bridge joints and final line striping will be completed in April 2010.

Special Advisory

The contractor is scheduled to be paving one lane at a time and there will be a taper along the edge to allow vehicles to move across lanes.  However, motorists are cautioned to reduce speeds in area and stay in lanes unless passing or exiting.

Work is expected to begin on Route 2 eastbound and motorists can expect lane closures during the day and evening.  The shoulder areas will remain closed during the milling and paving operation.

Lane closures allowed during the following times:

Route 2 West: expect lane closures at any time.

Route 2 East: Monday thru Friday from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. the following day and weekends at any time

The contract was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc., of North Haven, CT on October 27, 2009 at a cost of $2,772,365.90 and is scheduled to be completed in April 2010.
