The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed construction of operational lanes on I-84 eastbound between exits 1 and 2 and westbound at exit 2A/2B, on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Danbury City Hall Common Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor. An informal question and answer session will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m.

Currently I-84 eastbound has two through lanes between exits 1 and 2. In the westbound direction, I-84 has three through lanes prior to exit 2A/2B, that continue past the exit. The exit 2A/2B ramp is a one lane ramp that splits into Ramp 2A (toward Old Ridgebury Road) and 2B (toward New State Road). Ramp 2A merges with Old Ridgebury Road, at which point Old Ridgebury Road becomes a four lane divided roadway. Old Ridgebury Road runs in a north-south direction, intersecting with Route 6/202 (Mill Plain Road) in the northerly direction.

The project proposes to construct an operational lane on I-84 eastbound between exits 1 & 2. An additional operational lane is also proposed on I-84 westbound, from approximately 1,000 feet east of the Exit 2A/2B off-ramp, and continuing on the 2A ramp to Old Ridgebury Road. The existing Old Ridgebury Road median will be eliminated to accommodate two thru lanes and a longer exclusive left turn lane at the I-84 eastbound on-ramp intersection. A new traffic signal will be installed at this intersection. Within the project limits, the entire roadway width is proposed to be milled and overlaid. The Old Ridgebury Road overpass bridge is proposed to be rehabilitated, which may involve milling, reconstructing parapet end blocks, deck patching, membrane waterproofing, and the installation of asphaltic plug bridge joints. The existing drainage structures and illumination within the widening will be replaced. Some existing traffic signs will also be upgraded.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2010, based on the availability of funding. The estimated cost for this project is approximately $14 million and it is anticipated to be undertaken with State funds. All proposed work will be performed within the existing State right of way.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. ConnDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.
