Public Information Meeting Concerning the Replacement of Bridge No. 02502 Which Carries Route 82 over Succor Brook, in the Town of East Haddam
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 02502 which carries Route 82 over Succor Brook, in the town of East Haddam. The meeting will be held on November 12, 2009 at 7 p.m., in the Grange Hall, 488 Town Street, East Haddam, Connecticut.
The existing bridge, built in 1922, is a single-span structure consisting of a reinforced concrete slab on concrete abutments. It is situated on Route 82, 0.25 miles east of Route 149, just east of the intersection with Ray Hill Road . This bridge carries 1 lane of traffic in both the eastbound and westbound direction. It has an overall length and width of 14 feet and 26 feet, respectively, and a roadway width of 23.5 feet. The substructure consists of reinforced concrete abutments on spread footings. The wingwalls are made of loose rubble masonry with a mortar facing.
The project is necessary due to the poor condition of the foundation. The proposed work consists of replacing the existing structure with a 25 foot clear span, precast concrete arch structure founded on spread footings on existing ledge. The proposed roadway width will be 32 feet.
Work is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2012 and be completed in the fall of 2013. The replacement of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal-aid funds. The estimated construction cost for this project is $2,100,000. The construction will be performed using a detour route along Route 149 and Route 151. This bridge will be replaced along with Bridge No. 02501 located just west on Route 82. The work will be done by the same contractor. Based on the state highway boundary map, the width of the Route 82 right-of-way at the site is approximately 40 feet, however temporary easements and property acquisitions will be required for substructure work.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at CTDOT's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington , Connecticut , during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
