The Department of Transportation is announcing that beginning on Monday, June 8, 2009, reconstruction work is scheduled to begin on Governor Street in East Hartford, between Prospect Street and Main Street.

During the course of the Project, Governor Street will be closed to thru traffic but local vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be allowed at all times. The Contractor will be allowed to work Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm through 7:00 am.

The Project consists of the reconstruction of Governor Street from Prospect Street to the vicinity of Main Street. The work will include bituminous concrete pavement reconstruction, installation of curbing, driveway aprons, storm drainage, concrete sidewalk and embankment walls.

The  work is being performed by Milton C. Beebe & Sons, Inc. of Storrs, CT at a cost of $1,208,470  and is scheduled to be completed in October 2010.  

Signage will be posted and traffic will be detoured via Prospect Street and Connecticut Boulevard to Main Street. 

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
