Route 189 Intersection Improvements at Jerome Avenue, Turkey Hill Road and Gabb Road in Bloomfield
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Department is developing plans for intersection improvements along Route 189 at the intersection of Jerome Avenue, Turkey Hill Road and Gabb Road in Bloomfield. This project is currently scheduled to begin construction in the spring 2012 and continue through the summer of 2013.
The existing geometric conditions and accident history indicate a propensity for both rear-end and turning-intersecting path accidents. The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection.
The proposed project involves realigning the intersection of Route 189 at Jerome Avenue, Turkey Hill Road and Gabb Road to form a conventional four-way signalized intersection with exclusive left turn lanes on Route 189. The existing Jerome Avenue approach to the intersection of Route 189 is proposed to be closed and constructed into a cul-de-sac. A new connecting road is proposed to be constructed between Route 189 and Jerome Avenue. Surface and subsurface drainage improvements will also be included in the project. New sidewalks are also proposed around the cul-de-sac and connected to the existing sidewalk on Jerome Avenue, as well as along the new connector road between Route 189 and Jerome Avenue.
If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
