Weight Restriction to be Lifted on Route 7 Bridge in Salisbury
The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that, weather permitting, the one-way temporary traffic pattern required for the replacement of the Route 7 bridge over the Housatonic River in Salisbury will be shifted from the existing bridge to the northbound lane of the new bridge on Friday, September 11, 2009. Upon this shift of traffic, the 15-ton weight restriction will no longer be in effect.
This Project involves the demolition and construction of the bridge in two phases. Each phase requires alternating one-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. The first phase of alternating one-way traffic in the southbound lane of the existing bridge is presently in effect. The second phase channels alternating one-way traffic in the northbound lane of the new bridge until late fall 2010. The bridge will be closed to pedestrians during both construction phases. Appalachian trail hikers will be detoured westerly along Lime Rock Road and northerly along Dugway Road to reconnect to the trail at Falls Mountain Road on the west side of the Housatonic River.
Motorists should expect delays.
This $11.6 million project is being completed under a contract with Brunalli Construction Company of Southington, CT, under the direction of the Department of Transportation, District 4 Construction Office. The Department anticipates the project will be completed in October of 2010.
