Nighttime Construction Work to Commence on I- 84 between Exit 46 (Sisson Ave.) and Exit 48 (Asylum and Capitol Ave.) including ramps in Hartford
The Department of Transportation is announcing that nighttime work on the rehabilitation and repair of the Aetna Viaduct and adjacent bridges is scheduled to begin.  The work will impact nighttime traffic on I-84 between Exit 46 (Sisson Ave.) and Exit 48 (Asylum and Capitol Ave.).
The work involves repairs to the concrete bridge decks, milling and paving, bridge joint replacement, and the rehabilitation of structural steel including abrasive blast cleaning and painting.  This nighttime work is scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2010.
Work on this $22.3 million project is being performed by Manafort Brothers, Inc. of Plainville, CT under contract with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.  The anticipated completion date of this project is September 19, 2010.
Motorists can expect lane closures on I-84.  The allowable hours of work are:
Monday-Thursday 
I-84 East, 8 pm to 6 am
I-84 West, 8 pm to 6 am
Friday
I-84 East, 8 pm to 9 am Saturday                
I-84 West, 9 pm to 10 am Saturday
Saturday                         
I-84 East, 8 pm to 11 am Sunday   
I-84 West, 8 pm to 10 am Sunday           
Sunday        
I-84 East, 7 pm to 6 am Monday
I-84 West, 8 pm to 6 am Monday
Ramp closures are generally allowed between the hours of 8:00 pm and 6:00 am weekdays; between the hours of 8:00 pm and 9:00 am Saturdays; and between the hours of 8:00 pm and 11:00 am Sundays.  Detours on local City roads will be well marked when the following ramps are closed:  Exit 46 EB on-ramp from Sisson Ave; Exit 47 EB on-ramp and 47 WB off-ramp to and from Sigourney Street; Exit 48 EB off-ramps and Exit 48 WB on-ramps to and from Asylum and Capitol Ave.
Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
