Rehabilitation of Culvert No. 06728, Culvert No. 06734, and Culvert No. 06683 in Haddam
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Department’s Office of Engineering is developing plans to rehabilitate three (3) large corrugated metal cross culverts under Route 9 in the Town of Haddam (Culvert No. 06728, Culvert No. 06734, and Culvert
No. 06683).
No. 06683).
These culverts have been found to have significant deterioration, scour of bedding materials, and deformation. The project will involve the relining of existing culverts. Several alternatives of pipe types and sizes are being considered for relining to accommodate the drainage area and flow rate. Methods of access and construction will be used to minimize impacts to environmental resources.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.
This project was initiated as a result of the Department’s routine inspection of the State’s highway infrastructure. This project proposes to rehabilitate the identified culverts to prevent further degradation.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in February 2012, with construction anticipated to start fall 2012 or spring 2013. This project will be undertaken with both state and federal funds.
Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. Scott A. Hill, Manager of State Design, at (860) 594-3272, or at Internet address Scott.Hill@ct.gov. Please make reference to Project No. 172-391.
