Construction To Begin For Roundabout at the Five Corner Intersection for Route 286, Route 74, Skinner Road, Pinney Street and Windsorville Road in the Town of Ellington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2011 for the construction of a roundabout at the five corner intersection of Route 286, Route 74, Skinner Road, Pinney Street and Windsorville Road in the Town of Ellington.

The work includes converting the existing five corner intersection into a modern roundabout to improve safety and enhance traffic operations. The project also features new sidewalks, crosswalks, and storm water drainage systems. The truck apron around the center island of the roundabout and the mountable splitter islands will be constructed of a stamped colored concrete.

A roundabout design is a junction of two or more roads in which motorists enter the intersection and circulate around a central island to reach the desired roadway.

Lane Closure Info-

Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic throughout the project limits Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and possibly 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

DOT Project No. 0047-0116 was awarded to Colossale Concrete, Inc. of Berlin, Connecticut on December 22, 2010 at an estimated cost of $1,189,217.80 and is scheduled to be completed in June 2012.
