Intersection Improvements on Route 44 (Middle Turnpike) at Birch Road and Cedar Swamp Road in the Town of Mansfield
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work will begin on April 28, 2011 for intersection improvements on Route 44 (Middle Turnpike) at Birch Road and Cedar Swamp Road in the town of Mansfield .
Birch Road and Cedar Swamp Road will be reconstructed and realigned to provide a better sightline at Route 44. Minor drainage improvements on Cedar Swamp Road and Route 44 will be installed as part of the project. The entire 700 foot length of the Route 44 portion of the project will be milled and a bituminous overlay installed. New roadway signs and pavement markings will be incorporated as part of this project.
The construction project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The contract was awarded on April 4, 2011 to American Industries, Inc. of Jewett City , Ct at a cost of $270,899.75 and is scheduled to be completed in July 2011.
