The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering is implementing a Pavement Preservation Program for the 2012 construction season. It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.

The purpose of this program is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatments to extend the service life of the existing pavement. A section of Route 169, which runs through the Towns of Canterbury and Brooklyn, has been identified as a candidate for this program. The Department is developing plans to do the following: mill two (2) inches of existing pavement or remove paint striping, apply necessary crack filling and rubber chip seal, pave two (2) inches of hot mix asphalt, then coat the entire roadway with a layer of ultra-thin hot mix asphalt. This project along Route 169 will begin at the Route 14 intersection in Canterbury and end approximately 5.77 miles north at a point adjacent to South Cemetery in Brooklyn.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in January, 2012, with construction anticipated to start in summer 2012. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
