Public Information Meeting Regarding Improvements to the Clinton Shore Line East Railroad Station
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning improvements to the Clinton Shore Line East Railroad Station off of US Route 1 between John Street Extension and CT Route 81 [Hull Street] on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the William Stanton Andrews Memorial Town Hall, 54 East Main Street in Clinton. A presentation on the project will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an informal question and answer session. Inclement weather date: Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
The project is identified as State Project Number 310-0059.
The proposed project consists of a new fully canopied 200 foot-long high-level platform on the north side of the tracks to allow level boarding from both tracks. A pedestrian bridge over the tracks with connecting elevators and stairs will allow passengers to access platforms from either side. When complete, the station building will look similar to the Guilford Shore Line East Station.
Parking will be added behind the new north side platform. This new parking lot will accommodate up to 22 vehicles and provide a Kiss and Ride drop off. Landscaping elements, including low maintenance native species, have been included in the project to enhance the site.
No changes to either US Route 1 or Connecticut Route 81 are anticipated at this time.
All work will be performed while the station is still in operation.
Construction is anticipated to begin late 2011 or early 2012. The estimated construction cost for this project is between $7.5 and $10 million and it is anticipated to be funded with 100% State funds.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
