Public Information Meeting Regarding Proposed Surface Parking Expansion Improvements to the Stratford Railroad Station
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning the proposed surface parking expansion improvements to the Stratford Railroad Station on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at the Stratford Town Hall, 2725 Main Street in Stratford. A presentation on the project will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an open forum for individual discussions with DOT officials.
The proposed parking expansion project will be done in three separate phases and will provide much needed parking at the Stratford Railroad Station.
Phase 1 will be managed by the Town of Stratford (Town) and will consist of a new 124 space parking lot located south of the tracks. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2012 and conclude in late fall 2012. Construction is estimated to cost $800,000 and will be funded with Town funds.
Phase 2, identified as State Project Number 138-226 will be completed by the Department. It will consist of expanding the existing 122 space, north side of the Stratford Railroad Station parking lot, to 322 spaces. This project will also include the acquisition of the two adjacent properties that will be incorporated into the redesign of the parking lot.
It is anticipated that construction for Phase 2 will begin in spring 2013 and will be completed in the late fall 2013. The project cost is estimated at $5.8 million and will be funded with State funds. Under Phase 2, the completed 124 Phase 1 parking lot located south of the tracks will serve as temporary parking until the project is completed.
A future Phase 3 project will consist of constructing a new 247 space lot south of the tracks and east of the proposed Phase 1 parking lot. Construction cost is estimated at $3.5 to $4.5 million.
All work will be performed while the station is still in operation.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning these proposed projects.
Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting.
Plans of the proposed projects will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss the projects. Anyone wishing to discuss the projects may contact Mr. Scott A. Hill at (860) 594-3272 or by e-mail at scott.hill@ct.gov. Plans will also be available for review a few weeks before this meeting at the Stratford Town Hall .
