The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the project for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03388, Mill Hill Road over Route 2, in the Town of Colchester will begin January 28, 2011.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of the existing bridge and associated roadwork at the approach areas to the bridge. Bridge work includes the full-depth and partial depth patching of the existing bridge deck, modification of existing bridge parapets, and installation of new protective fencing on the structure. Existing structural steel will be repaired, cleaned and painted, and deteriorated substructure concrete will be replaced. Road work includes the bituminous concrete overlay of Mill Hill Road at the bridge, minor drainage improvements, and the installation of metal beam railing.
The roadway shoulders may be impacted between 9:00am and 4:00pm at this time. The bridge will be constructed in stages and further restrictions will occur once this construction begins in mid-March. Advance notification will be provided prior to this phase of work begins.
The contract was awarded to Baier Construction Company, Inc. of Bloomfield, Connecticut at a cost of $1,848,039.00 on December 2, 2010 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2011.
