REMINDER / MOTORIST ADVISORY (EXPECT TRAFFIC DELAYS): Weekend Work to Begin April 15, 2011 For The Rehabilitation of the Commodore Hull Bridge that Carries Route 8 over the Housatonic River in Derby and Shelton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the second phase of a project to rehabilitate the Commodore Hull Bridge over the Housatonic River in the towns of Derby and Shelton will begin Friday night April 15, 2011.
The second phase of work will require stage construction including traffic shifts on Route 8, ramp closures and weekend work from Friday night until Monday morning.  Travel lanes on Route 8 will be reduced to a single lane between Exits 14 (Route 110, Howe Avenue) and Exit 15 (Route 34).

ROUTE 8

Daytime:

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. limited to shoulder and ramp operational lanes.  Lane or shoulder closures on Route 110 and local roads may also occur.  

Nighttime:

Northbound Monday - Wednesday 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Southbound Monday - Wednesday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Weekend (Friday night to Monday morning):

Northbound reduced to one lane Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.

Southbound reduced to one lane Friday 8 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.

RAMPS

Route 8 northbound on-ramp from Howe Avenue closed Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.  Traffic detoured to Kneen St. on-ramp.  

Motorist Advisory- Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays in the area.  Lane closure information will be posted on the Department’s website at www.ct.gov/dot .  Go to “CT Travel Info Map” link.  

The project consists of two phases of work.  The first phase is to complete structural steel repairs and substructure repairs.  The second phase which  includes the weekend work will be for the milling and resurfacing of the bridge decks, and reconstruction of the bridge expansion joint systems.

DOT Project No. 126-167 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company Inc., of Avon, CT on November 8, 2010 at a cost of $2,795,580.00 and is scheduled to be completed in July 2011.
