Public Information Meeting Concerning Proposed Improvements on Route 42 (North Brooksvale Road) at King Road in Cheshire
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning proposed safety improvements on Route 42 (North Brooksvale Road) at the Cheshire Town Hall on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Council Chambers, 84 South Main Street, Cheshire, Connecticut. An open house will begin at 7:00 p.m. with design presentation at 7:30 p.m. and a question and answer period immediately following.
The project is identified as State Project Number 25-138.
The project consists of providing drainage and safety improvements on Route 42 at King Road. The proposed work includes the installation of a new drainage system on Route 42 that will connect to the existing drainage network on King Road. Approximately, 1,000 feet of the existing drainage network on King Road will be upgraded in order to facilitate a high volume of drainage run-off. The work also includes full depth reconstruction at the curve to address safety and geometric improvements on Route 42 by improving the superelevation rate of the sharp horizontal curve at King Road. In addition, the existing traffic arrow signs at the curve on Route 42 will be replaced with chevron signs to warn the motorists of the change in roadway direction.
Construction is anticipated to start in the summer of 2013, based on the availability of funding. The construction cost for this project is approximately $1.8 million.
The public informational meeting is being held to offer a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
