Public Information Meeting for the Project to Replace Bridge No. 01904, on U.S. Route 1 over Jordan Brook in the Town of Waterford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a public information meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at 7:00 PM, at the Waterford Town Hall at 15 Rope Ferry Road in Waterford, to discuss the project to replace Bridge 01904 (Route 1 over Jordan Brook in Waterford).
The bridge is located on U.S. Route 1 in the town of Waterford. Reynolds Lane is located approximately 250 feet west of the bridge and Route 156 is approximately 1 mile east of the bridge. The existing bridge has a curb-to-curb width of 30 feet. The estimated 2010 Average Daily Traffic on Route U.S. 1 at this site is approximately 14,000 vehicles per day.
The existing bridge superstructure consists of a single-span concrete slab. The existing bridge substructure consists of stone rubble masonry.
The purpose and need for the project is to address the bridge’s structural deficiencies and functional obsolescence. The bridge is structurally deficient due to the poor condition of the substructure and it is functionally obsolete due to the deck geometry.
The proposed bridge replacement will result in approximately 550 feet of roadway construction. The proposed roadway approach width is 32 feet with two 12 foot travel lanes and two 4 foot shoulders. U.S. Route 1 will be raised approximately 0.5 feet in order to meet the minimum hydraulic requirements.
An on-site temporary bridge will be used to maintain U.S. Route 1 traffic while the proposed bridge is under construction. The temporary bridge will have two 11 foot lanes, two 1 foot shoulders and a 4 foot sidewalk.
Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2015. The replacement of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds. The estimated construction cost for this project is $3,400,000.
The public information meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans will be available for public review at the Town Hall. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Joseph Scalise at (860) 594-3389 or Joseph.Scalise@ct.gov to make an appointment.
