Widening on Route 37 at Barnum Road, City of Danbury
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve safety at the intersection of Route 37 and Barnum Road in Danbury.
Patterns of rear-end accidents exist involving through traffic on Route 37 Northbound and traffic on Route 37 Northbound turning left onto Barnum road. This project will involve widening and restriping Route 37 northbound to provide a left-turn bypass area for a length of roughly 600 feet at Barnum Road. This will allow northbound vehicles on Route 37 to bypass vehicles turning left onto Barnum Road, reducing the potential for rear-end collisions.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in December 2013, with construction anticipated to start in summer 2014. This project will be undertaken with 90% Federal and10% State funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon the completion of the preliminary design. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr.Timothy M. Wilson, Manager ofHighway Design,at (860) 594-3189, orby e-mail at Timothy.Wilson@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project Number 0034-0345.
