CTDOT Announces Completion of Traffic Shift on I-95 NB
All travel lanes on I-95 northbound between Kimberly Avenue (Exit 44) and the I-91 northbound connector (Exit 48) have been re-opened to traffic. Work previously scheduled to end at 3 PM on Saturday afternoon was completed ahead of schedule at approximately 7 AM on Saturday morning.
With the completion of the I-95 northbound realignment, the restricted access to I-91 northbound from the Long Wharf Drive on-ramp has been removed. Physical constraints resulting from a traffic shift carried out in May 2013 limited the distance available for traffic to merge to the I-91 northbound off-ramp. The exit to I-91 northbound has been relocated approximately 2,000 feet to the north, facilitating traffic flow between Kimberly Avenue and Long Wharf and providing motorists entering from Long Wharf Drive the required merge distance to I-91 northbound.

The Department commends our contractor, O&G/Tutor Perini Joint Venture for their sustained effort and dedication, as well as all the motorists in the Greater New Haven Area, for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this time.
To facilitate mobility through the work zone, motorists were assisted prior to and during the construction activities by advanced public notifications including: CTDOT Press Releases and ‘Construction Updates’ and ’Construction News’ notices; statewide, municipal and public safety coordination; door-to-door contact with local businesses; placement of advanced and additional highway signing; and the use of state and local police officers.
This segment of the project is one of a series of many traffic shifts as work progresses on the construction of the Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange and other projects that are part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program.
