Daytime Closing of East Main Street in New Britain, September 23-27; Detour Required

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that East Main Street (Route 174) between East Street and Dewey Street in New Britain will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, September 23, until Friday, September 27, 2013.

      The reconstruction is part of the Ctfastrak dedicated bus rapid transit roadway project and includes construction of a portion of the busway beginning just north of Cedar Street in Newington and running south to an end point just west of Stanley Street in New Britain.

DETOUR INFO:

      Traffic will be detoured onto East Street, Smalley Street and Dewey Street. Signs will be posted to help guide motorists.  The road will be re-opened during the evening hours. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and use caution at night as the driving surfaces may be uneven and unpaved at times.    

      The contract was awarded to E&S Joint Venture II of North Haven, Connecticut on March 22, 2012, at a cost of $39,427,150 and is scheduled to be completed in July 2014.
