First of a Series of Weekend Closures Scheduled For Route 3 Southbound on the William H. Putnam Bridge over the Connecticut River in the Towns of Glastonbury and Wethersfield
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the first of a series of weekend closures is scheduled for Route 3 southbound on the Putnam Bridge which carries Route 3 over the Connecticut River in the Towns of Glastonbury and Wethersfield. The directional closure is from Friday at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, September 27-30, 2013.
The full closures are required to
complete the replacement of the bridge joints as part of the ongoing
rehabilitation project.
The
southbound direction (Glastonbury heading toward Wethersfield) of the bridge
will be closed to traffic between the Main Street exit in Glastonbury and I-91
in Wethersfield. The closure will start at 8 p.m. Friday with all lanes of
travel reopened by 5 a.m. Monday. Lane closures in advance of the full closure
begin at 7 p.m. The work is weather and temperature sensitive and may be
modified at any time.
The
Department is currently projecting that additional southbound directional
closures will take place on the following dates from Friday at 8 p.m. Until
Monday at 5 a.m.:
10/4-10/7
10/18-10/21
10/25-10/28
11/1-11/4

Motorists will be directed to take Route 2 to the Charter Oak Bridge (Routes 5 & 15). Signs and police officers will be stationed at key intersections.
DOT Contract No. 0053-0175 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. of Plantsville CT on February 13, 2013 at a cost of $30,297,746.60 and is scheduled to be completed in May 2015.
