Nighttime Bridge Maintenance on I-84 in Union

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a nighttime bridge maintenance project will be performed on I-84 in Union, December 2-19, 2013.

      The project consists of bridge haunch removal to the I-84 eastbound and westboundBridge over a local roadway in Union.  This project is scheduled to occur from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., beginning Monday, December 2, through the morning of Thursday, December 19. 

      A bridge haunch is an extraneous, linear section that is left after concrete is formed and is unrelated to the structural integrity of the bridge, meaning that it is safe to remove it. Haunches can deteriorate over time and begin to crumble.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

      Motorists can expect lane closures on I-84 eastbound and westbound between Exit 71(Rte. 320) andExit 73 (Rte. 190) in Union.  Traffic control personnel, state police and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Monday through Thursday).

      Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
