Public Information Meeting – Proposed Design for the Construction of the Berlin Railroad Station in the Town of Berlin
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a public information meeting concerning the Berlin Railroad Station.  The meeting will be on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT.

As a part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, the Berlin Railroad Station will be constructed adjacent to the existing historical station.

The project proposes construction of a state-of-the-art passenger railroad station that includes two (2) covered high level platforms, 500 feet in length, to allow for level boarding. The proposed project also includes constructing a pedestrian bridge (walkway) and elevator towers in order to allow for safe pedestrian access across the tracks.  Access to the proposed station will remain by Depot Road.  Expanded parking will be provided as a result of the project, bringing the total number of parking spaces for the railroad station to 218 spaces.  Sidewalk access to the proposed station will be provided from Depot Road to Route 372 (Farmington Avenue) and from a separate walkway along the eastern most side of the proposed parking lot that connects to Route 372 (Farmington Avenue).

Work is scheduled to begin in 2014 and be complete in 2016.  The approximate cost is $22,250,000 funded through the Federal Rail Administration and with State of Connecticut matching funds.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford an opportunity for the public to participate and comment in person on the proposed project.

Plans will be available for public review.  CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at CTDOT’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact the Project Engineer, Mr. Eric Bergeron, at (860) 594-3152.  Plans will also be available for review in the Town Engineer’s Office.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with CTDOT personnel.
