Public Information Meeting Concerning the Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03821, Rte. 2 over Rte. 78 On-Ramp in Stonington
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03821, which carries Route 2 over the Route 78 On-Ramp, in the town of Stonington.  The meeting will be held on November 14, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Stonington Police Department, Stonington, Connecticut.
The existing bridge, built in 1970, is a two-span structure consisting of a reinforced concrete deck and steel box girders supported by reinforced concrete abutments and pier founded on rock.  It is situated between Route Nos. 49 and 234 and carries two lanes of traffic in both the northbound and southbound directions.  It has an overall length and width of 254 feet and 80.5 feet, respectively, and a curb-to-curb width of 52 feet.
The proposed project consists of deck patching, sidewalk replacement and steel painting.
Work is anticipated to begin in spring 2014 and be completed in fall 2014.  The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds.  The estimated construction cost for this project is $3,100,000.
The construction will be performed in two stages to provide for one 12 foot travel lane in each direction during each stage.  There is no rights-of-way involvement associated with this project.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.  The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting.  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans will be available for public review.  Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Bryan Reed at (860) 594-3418 to make an appointment.
All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with Department personnel.
