The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 00908, US Route 202 over Bantam River, the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 06656, US Route 202 over an unnamed brook, and the replacement of Bridge No. 06657, US Route 202 over unnamed brook. The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Litchfield Intermediate School, Cafeteria Room, 35 Plumb Hill Road, Litchfield, CT. A presentation on the projects will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an open forum for individual discussions with Department officials.
The projects are identified as Project Nos. 73-177, 73-178 and 73-179.
Bridge No. 00908
The existing bridge consists of three simple supported reinforced concrete deck slabs and pavement overlay supported on two unreinforced concrete abutments, four wingwalls and two piers. The bridge is located approximately 0.75-miles northeast of the US Route 202 intersection with Route 63.
The bridge carries one lane of traffic in each direction. The existing bridge has a curb-to-curb width of 30-feet. The estimated 2012 Average Daily Traffic on US Route 202 at this site is 8,400 vehicles per day.
The purpose and need for the project is to address the bridge’s structural deficiencies and functional obsolescence. The bridge is structurally deficient due to the poor condition of the concrete deck and the bridge is functionally obsolete due to insufficient bridge deck width. The bridge is also scour critical.
The proposed bridge replacement will result in approximately 350-feet of roadway construction. The proposed roadway approach width is 40-feet with two 12-foot travel lanes and two 8-foot shoulders.
The proposed bridge will be constructed in two stages utilizing an alternating one-way traffic pattern during construction. Work is anticipated to begin in spring 2016. The replacement of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds.
Bridge No. 06656
The existing bridge consists of a single corrugated metal plate pipe-arch culvert, a pavement overlay and concrete end walls and wingwalls. The culvert, US Route 202 over an unnamed brook is located approximately 350-feet southwest of Bridge No. 06657 and approximately one mile south of the Torrington town line.
The culvert carries one lane of traffic in each direction. The existing culvert has a curb-to-curb width of 40-feet. The estimated 2012 Average Daily Traffic on US Route 202 at this site is 8,400 vehicles per day.
The purpose and need for the project is to address the culvert’s structural deficiencies. The culvert is structurally deficient due to the poor condition of the corrugated metal pipe.
The proposed culvert rehabilitation will result in approximately 150-feet of roadway construction. The proposed lane and shoulder configurations will match the existing roadway layout.
The proposed culvert rehabilitation will be constructed in two stages with the existing travel lanes on US Route 202 being maintained at all times during construction. Work is anticipated to begin in spring 2016. The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds.
Bridge No. 06657
The existing bridge consists of a single corrugated metal plate pipe-arch culvert, a pavement overlay and concrete end walls and wingwalls. The culvert, US Route 202 over an unnamed brook is located approximately 350-feet northeast of Bridge No. 06656 and approximately one mile south of the Torrington town line.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning these proposed projects.

Plans will be available for public review at Litchfield Town Hall. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.
