Second Construction Phase Begins on Cedar Street Bridge over I-95 in Norwalk;
Project Linked to Work to Add Auxiliary Lanes on I-95
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of the second phase of construction for the bridge carrying Cedar Street over I-95 in Norwalk as part of a project to add auxiliary lanes on I-95 between Interchange 14 (Route 1) and Interchange 15 (Route 7) and improvements to Route 1 in Norwalk.
The bridge work is part of a project to construct continuous auxiliary lanes (referred to as speed change lanes) between Interchange 14 (Route 1) and Interchange 15 (Route 7) and improvements to Route 1 in Norwalk. Additional infrastructure improvements include the replacement of three overpass bridges (Fairfield Avenue, Cedar Street, and Taylor Avenue) that carry local streets over 1-95 and improvements to drainage facilities, pedestrian and traffic operations including the addition of seven-foot wide sidewalks along both sides of Route U.S. 1.
Now that the first phase of reconstruction of Cedar Street is complete, it is necessary to remove the remaining superstructure of the bridge at night.
Nighttime construction activities that may create vibrations and/or noise will occur during the removal of a portion of the Cedar Street overpass.
This is Bridge No. 00054.
