State Project No. 76-217, Construction of Charter Oak Greenway Shared Use Path in the Towns of Manchester and Bolton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed construction of the Charter Oak Greenway Shared Use Path in the Towns of Manchester and Bolton, Connecticut, on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Lincoln Center Directors Room, Manchester, Connecticut. An informal question and answer session will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of the project is to extend the Charter Oak Greenway in Manchester and connect with the Hop River State Park Trail in Bolton. This will enhance continuity with the existing bicycle trail system throughout the State, while providing an alternative to motor vehicle transportation.
Surface and subsurface drainage improvements will be included in the project. Pedestrian bridges or culverts will be installed to cross minor existing stream or water courses. Rights of way acquisition and environmental permits will be required.
Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2014, based on the availability of funding. The estimated cost for this project is approximately $11.4 million and it is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford an opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
