Construction Update for the Replacement of the West River Bridge (I-95) in New Haven and West Haven
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a new on-ramp configuration to I-95 Northbound at the Exit 45 Interchange is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2014, followed by a major traffic shift on I-95 Northbound on Friday, November 21, 2014, through Monday morning, November 23, 2014.
Traffic
revisions on November 14, 2014: The existing combined on-ramp to I-95 NB
from Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Sea Street will be permanently closed. The new
on-ramp to I-95 NB will be opened and traffic from Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and
Sea Street will access the on-ramp just south of the I-95 overpass on Ella T.
Grasso Boulevard. Permanent signage will be installed guiding traffic from both
Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Sea Street to the new on-ramp. Traffic from Kimberly Avenue will continue to
access I-95 NB by using the existing ramp.
Traffic
revisions on November 21, 2014: All travel lanes on I-95 NB will be
shifted toward the median starting east of Exit 43 and merge back in to the
existing alignment in the vicinity of the Howard Avenue overpass. This work includes the installation of
advance warning signs, restriping of the traffic lanes and the installation and
relocation of precast concrete barrier curb. This lane shift work is scheduled
to begin on the evening of Friday, November 21, 2014.
Traffic from Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and
Sea Street will continue to access the new on-ramp to I-95 NB just south of the
I-95 overpass on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard.
The existing on-ramp from Kimberly Avenue to I-95 NB will be permanently
closed. Traffic from Kimberly Avenue to I-95 NB will be diverted to the new
on-ramp to I-95 NB on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard via an extension to Ella T.
Grasso Boulevard. Permanent signage will
be installed guiding traffic from Kimberly Avenue to the new on-ramp.
