Norwich Avenue Bridge Work Completed in Lebanon; Detours Removed

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the work for the replacement of the Norwich Avenue bridge over Bartlett Brook in Lebanon has substantially been completed and all roads previously closed for the detour of traffic will be opened to traffic on October 25, 2014.

The project was necessary to make improvements to the carrying capacity, road width and increase the bridge opening in waterway to minimize scour, improve water flow within the brook and reduce the potential for flooding over the roadway.

The bridge work included the replacement of the structure with a reinforced concrete deck on galvanized steel beams supported on concrete abutments on steel piles. The bridge span was increased from 24 feet to 60 feet.  The bridge width was increased from 25 feet to 30 feet to accommodate a 12 foot lane and 3 foot shoulder in each direction.

Road work included a bituminous concrete overlay at the site, the installation of metal beam railing at the approaches to the bridge, construction of retaining walls, and minor drainage improvements.

DOT Project No. 0070-0116 was awarded to McCarthy Concrete, Incorporated of South Windsor, Connecticut at a cost of $1,603,715.25.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
