Pavement Preservation Project on Interstate 95 in Groton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that beginning Monday, April 21, 2014, a pavement preservation project will begin on Interstate 95 in Groton from Exit 88 to Exits 89 in both directions.
The project consists of the milling and paving of 5.31 miles of I-95 in both directions from the north side of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge over the Thames River to Exit 89, Allyn Street. The project also includes the replacement of bridge deck joints and reconstruction of concrete expansion joint headers.
DOT Project No. 0058-0329 was awarded to American Industries, Inc. of Jewett City, Connecticut at a cost of approximately $8,970,000.00 on March 12, 2014, and is currently estimated to be completed in October 2014.
LANE CLOSURE INFO- Most of the work will occur at night:
I-95 Northbound
Area 1 (0.30 miles) – North side of Gold Star Bridge to Exit 86 (Rte 184 left exit)
Weeknights: Monday - Wednesday 7 pm to 7 am following day, and Thursday 8 pm to 7 am Friday
Weekends: Friday 11 pm to 7 am Saturday, Saturday 8 pm to Sunday 8 am and Sunday 9 pm to 7 am Monday
Area 2 (4.30 miles) - Exit 86 to approx. ½ mile from Exit 89 (Allyn Street)
Weeknights: Monday 6 pm to 11 am, Tuesday 6 pm to 2 pm, Wednesday 6 pm to 11 am Thursday, and Thursday 6 pm to 9 am on Friday
Weekends: Friday from 7 pm to 9 am Saturday, Saturday 5 pm to 10 am Sunday, and Sunday 4 pm to 2 pm Monday
Area 3 (0.71 miles) - approx. ½ mile from Exit 89 (Allyn Street) to Exit 89
Weeknights: Monday – Tuesday 5 pm to 4 pm following day, Wednesday 5 pm to 3 pm Thursday, Thursday 6 pm to Noon Friday
Weekends: Friday 6 pm to 11 am Saturday, Saturday 4 pm to Sunday11 am and Sunday Noon to 4 pm Monday
I-95 Southbound
Area 1 (5.03 miles) – On ramp from Mystic St (Exit 89) to approx. ¼ mile from start of Gold Star Bridge
Weeknights: Monday 5 pm to 3 pm Tuesday, Tuesday 5 pm to 2 pm Wednesday, Wednesday 6 pm to 11 am Thursday, Thursday 6 pm to 10 am Friday
Weekends: Friday 7 pm to 9 am Saturday, Saturday 5 pm to Sunday 8 am and Sunday 4 pm to 7 am Monday
Area 2 (0.28 miles) - approx. ¼ mile from start of Gold Star Bridge to the Bridge, one or more lanes may be closed except during the following days and times:
All travel lanes open to traffic Wednesday between 4 and 5 pm , Thursday between 3 pm and 6 pm, Friday from Noon to 6 pm, Saturday 11 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 11 am to Noon
Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
