Traffic Shift Scheduled as Work Continues on the Bridge Carrying Interstate 84 Westbound Over Center Street in Newtown
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that traffic will be shifted on Interstate 84 to rehabilitate Bridge No. 04256 over Center Street in Newtown. The traffic shift on Interstate 84 WB is scheduled for Wednesday night, October 29, 2014.
The
work for the traffic shift includes relocation of temporary precast barrier,
removal of current pavement markings, installation of new pavement markings,
and necessary signing modifications.
The
project involves the rehabilitation of Bridge Nos. 04255 and 04256 which carry
1-84 over Center Street, a local road in the town of Newtown. The structures are single-span
multi-beam-type structures. Bridge No. 04255, built in 1978, carries two lanes
of Interstate 84 eastbound traffic. Bridge
No. 04256, built in 1977, carries two lanes of westbound traffic. The two bridges are parallel structures, set
approximately 90 feet apart and are situated 0.17 miles west of the Housatonic
River.
The
traffic shift will occur in the westbound direction of I-84 with work beginning
at 7 p.m. Wednesday night, October 29, 2014.
The new alignment will be in place for commuter traffic by 6 a.m. Thursday
morning, October 30. The rain date for
this shift is Thursday night, October 30th to Friday morning,
October 31, 2014.
DOT Project No. 0096-0194/195
was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. at a cost of $5,919,944.30 on August 17,
2012 and is scheduled to be completed in April 2015.
