Design Underway for Pavement Preservation on Route 2 in Marlborough and Colchester
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is implementing a pavement preservation program for the 2016 construction season.
The purpose of this project is to improve the existing wearing surface and to extend the service life of the pavement. The proposed work on Route 2 includes milling and paving 2.25” of bituminous concrete curb to curb. This project will address minor drainage issues such as roadside ponding and rutting contributing to the deterioration of the pavement surface. On and off ramps within the project limits are to be milled and paved with 2” of bituminous concrete curb to curb. Bridge joints are also being evaluated for replacement.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in July 2015, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2016. This project will be undertaken with 80 % Federal and 20 % State funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.
Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. William W. Britnell, Principal Engineer of Highway Design, at (860) 594-3274, or by e-mail at William.Britnell@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project Number 0078-0091.
