I-95/I-91 Northbound Ramp Opens in New Haven
Over the weekend of May 29 to May 31, 2015, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) shifted traffic onto the new I-95 Northbound off-ramp to I-91 Northbound. The new ramp was officially opened with one lane of traffic on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Remaining construction activities were successfully completed and all traffic lanes were opened at 9:05 a.m. on of Sunday, May 31, 2015.
This traffic shift moved traffic off of the final remaining piece of original infrastructure in the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange. The I-95 Northbound off-ramp to I-91 Northbound has been relocated into its final alignment over two new bridges. Upon Program completion, this new off-ramp to I-91 Northbound will be a right-hand exit. Changes in the alignment are illustrated in before and after stills and a drive-through video, found on the Program’s website, www.i95newhaven.com.
The Department commends our contractor, O&G/Tutor Perini Joint Venture for their efforts, as well as all the motorists in the Greater New Haven Area, for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this time.
To facilitate mobility through the work zone, motorists were assisted prior to and during the construction activities by advanced public notifications including: CTDOT Press Releases, 'Construction Updates' and 'Construction News' notices; statewide, municipal and public safety coordination; placement of advanced and additional highway signing; and the use of state police.
This segment of the project is one of a series of many traffic shifts as work progresses on the construction of the Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange and other projects that are part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program.
