Major Traffic Shift for the Replacement of I-95 Bridge over West River between New Haven and West Haven

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a major traffic shift on I-95 Southbound is scheduled from Friday night, August 28, 2015 to Monday morning, August 31, 2015, in the towns of New Haven and West Haven.

      Traffic revisions on I-95 Southbound on Friday, August 28, 2015, starting at 11 PM are expected to be completed by Monday morning, August 31, 2015 at 6 AM. All travel lanes on I-95 Southbound will be shifted onto the existing I-95 Northbound travel lanes and the Northbound bridge over the West River starting east of the Howard Avenue overpass and will merge back into the existing I-95 Southbound alignment prior to Exit 43.  This work includes the installation of advance warning signs, restriping of the traffic lanes and the installation and relocation of precast concrete barrier curb.  Over the weekend, lane closures are expected between the hours of 11 PM on Friday, August 28, 2015, to 9 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015 and between the hours of 7 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2015, to 6 AM on Monday, August 31, 2015. Due to the Connecticut Open Tennis Tournament in New Haven, no interference with existing traffic operations will be allowed on I-95 Southbound and Northbound from Exit 42 to Exit 46 between the hours of 9 AM and 7 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2015.

LANE CLOSURE INFO-

      Motorists can expect lane closures on I-95 Southbound between Exit 46 (Sargent Drive) in New Haven and Exit 42 (Route 162) in West Haven.  Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The allowed work schedule for this project is as follows below for the various roadways:

I-95 Northbound from Exit 42 (Route 162) to Exit 46 (Long Wharf Drive)

Monday-Friday 11 pm to 6 am

Friday 11 PM to 9 am Saturday

Saturday 7 pm to 6 am Monday

I-95 Southbound from Exit 46 (Sargent Drive) to Exit 42 (Route 162)

Monday-Friday 11 pm to 6 am

Friday 11 pm to 9 am Saturday

Saturday 7 pm to 6 am Monday

Route 10 (Ella Grasso Blvd) and Kimberly Avenue

Monday – Friday 9 am to 3 pm and 6 pm to 6 am

Ramps within Interchanges 44 (Kimberly Avenue) to Interchange 46 (Long Wharf)

Night work from 9 pm to 6 am

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
