Operational Improvements on Route 34 at Derby-Milford Road in Derby
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is currently developing plans to improve the overall traffic operations at the intersection of Route 34 (New Haven Avenue) at Derby-Milford Road.
The proposed improvements will
widen Derby-Milford Road to accommodate a two-lane approach to Route 34 to help reduce congestion. There will be a minor roadway realignment which will require full width/depth reconstruction for the entire
length of the proposed
project on Derby-Milford Road.
The intersection on Route 34 at Derby-Milford Road will also be
widened to accommodate a right turn only lane from Route 34 onto Derby-Milford Road to improve safety.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in March 2017, with construction anticipated
to start in spring 2018. This project will be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public
informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important
that the community
share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon the completion of the preliminary design. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing
will be necessary.
