Bridge Maintenance along Route 234 in North Stonington & Route 1 in Groton and Old Saybrook

   The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a bridge maintenance project will be performed on Route 234 in North Stonington and Route 1 in Groton and Old Saybrook beginning Monday, August 8, 2016.

   The project consists of bridge maintenance on Route 234, Bridge # 01797 (I-95 SB overpass) and Bridge #01798 (I-95 NB overpass) in North Stonington and on Route 1 NB & SB, Bridge #06517 (Poquonock River overpass) in Groton and on Route 1 NB & SB, Bridge #02300 (Oyster River overpass) in Old Saybrook. This project is scheduled to occur on Monday, August 8, 2016 through Friday, August 26, 2016.

   This project is included in the Department of Transportation’s 2016 bridge maintenance program to support state forces with bridge repairs and is being performed by Costello Industries Inc.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

   Motorists can expect various lane closures on Route 234 EB & WB in North Stonington between Wheeler Road and Flanders Road. Also on Route 1 NB & SB in Groton between North and South Road and in Old Saybrook between Old Boston Post Road and Ingham Hill Road. 

  Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.    

   Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
