Closure of Main Street in Chester for Bridge Replacement
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the replacement of Bridge No. 02937 located at the intersection of the northern end of Main Street and Route 148 in Chester. A detour will be posted.
The project consists of the complete removal of the existing superstructure for the existing bridge, the installation of drilled micropiles, and the installation of new precast concrete substructure elements and bridge deck superstructure. Additionally there will be minor drainage, new sidewalks, and decorative lighting installations and minor pavement resurfacing.
DOT Project No. 0026-0120 was awarded to Arborio Corporation of Cromwell, CT at a cost of $4,553,630.00 on June 9, 2015 and is anticipated to be complete in July 2016. This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 2, Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE and DETOUR INFO-
Vehicular access to and from the north end of Main Street at the intersection of Route 148 will be closed on or about January 11th, 2016 and is expected to reopen on or about May 22, 2016.
Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists to the north and south business areas of Main Street that will be separated by the bridge closure.
Pedestrian traffic to and from the business district through the work zone will be maintained on alternating sides of the bridge during stage-construction at all times.
