Public Information Meeting Concerning Potential Major Intersection Improvements on Route 6 (Main Street) at North Main Street and Agney Avenue in Plymouth
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public informational meeting concerning proposed major intersection improvements on Route 6 (Main Street) at North Main Street and Agney Avenue in Plymouth on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 7:00 PM in the Plymouth Town Hall Community Room, 80 Main Street, Terryville, CT.
The project is identified as Prospective State Project No. 110-TMP1.
The proposed project will provide traffic operational improvements by realigning North Main Street roughly 200 feet east to the Agney Avenue intersection, consolidating the existing traffic signals at North and South Main Streets to a single traffic signal at the new North Main Street/Agney Avenue intersection, and providing minor widening on Route 6 to accommodate exclusive left-turn lanes at the new North Main Street/Agney Avenue. These improvements will enhance safety and operations by separating left turning traffic from through-traffic, eliminating the skew at North Main Street, and providing signalized access for left turns at Agney Avenue at a normalized four-legged intersection. The existing signal at South Main Street(a one-way roadway away from Route 6) will be removed and a dedicated westbound left-turn lane will be provided from Route 6 onto South Main Street.
Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements include the acquisition of the property on the west corner of the North Main Street intersection, partial acquisitions at the corners of the Agney Avenue intersection, and possible easements or rights for minor sloping elsewhere. North Main Street will be relocated into a portion of the town-owned park adjacent to Baldwin Park and the Veterans Memorial will be relocated to the east.
The public informational meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this prospective project.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five (5) business days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Hugh H. Hayward, P.E. at (860) 594-3219 or by e-mail at Hugh.Hayward@ct.gov.
