The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work will begin on March 1, 2016 on the rehabilitation of bridges 00352A and 00352B, Interstate 95 over Oil Mill Road in the town of Waterford.

The project consists of the replacement of the superstructures of both bridges using an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) “Slide” technique.  This process involves building the new superstructures next to the existing bridges on temporary supports prior to demolishing the existing superstructures.  When the new spans are ready, the existing structure can be quickly demolished and the new spans slid into place.  This allows the work to be performed with minimal impact to the traveling public.  This particular project will consist of four (4) slides, each performed within a thirty-four (34) hour period.  Each slide will be half of one of the two bridges while traffic is maintained on the remaining half of the bridge.  The first two slides are scheduled to be performed on I-95 NB Bridge Number 00352A prior to August 31, 2016.  The last two slides are scheduled to be on I-95 SB Bridge Number 00352A after September 12, 2016. Updated press releases will be issued in the future prior to the planned slides.

Other work under this project includes substructure concrete repairs and the replacement of certain concrete substructure elements.

DOT Project No. 0152-0157 was awarded to Brunalli Construction Company at a cost of $4,921,881.35 on January 8, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed May 15, 2017.
