UPDATE - Overnight Closures of Route 34 in Derby for Bridge Construction Activities Extended Due to Inclement Weather
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the overnight closures on Route 34 in the Derby will be extended due to inclement weather and will continue from Monday, May 16, 2016 through Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
The overnight closures of Route 34 are necessary for the placement of concrete for portions of the new bridge deck required for the rehabilitation and widening of Bridge Number 00947, which carries Route 34 (Main Street) over the Naugatuck River.
The bridge rehabilitation project includes the installation of a new concrete deck, the replacement of bridge bearings, sidewalks and lighting. New fascia girders for a new sidewalk will also be installed as well as a new driving surface.
Detour and lane Closure Details:
During the scheduled closures, the bridge (Route 34) will be closed to the traveling public. A detour will be in place utilizing Route 115 (Derby Avenue), Division Street in Ansonia to cross the Naugatuck River, Pershing Drive and Route 8. Detour signs will be posted and Derby and Ansonia Police will assist with traffic control. One lane on Route 34 will be provided for emergency vehicles and pedestrians only during the closures.
DOT Project No. 0036-0182 was awarded to Baier Construction Co. of Bloomfield, Connecticut at a cost of $8,865,000.50 on March 14, 2014, and is scheduled to be completed in November 2016.
