Additional Lane Reduction to be Implemented on I-95 Southbound on the Gold Star Bridge Beginning on September 5, 2017
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that an additional lane reduction will be implemented on the Gold Star Bridge on I-95 southbound, in Groton and New London, to facilitate ongoing construction/bridge repair activities.
The travel lane coming from the State Route 184 (Gold Star Highway) on-ramp will merge into the thru-lanes at the east approach to the Gold Star Bridge. The roadway pavement markings will be reconfigured to delineate 3 lanes of traffic across the bridge. The work zone will be separated from the roadway with temporary concrete barrier curb. All entrance and exit ramps will remain open during construction. Additional lane closures may be implemented during off-peak hours.
Project Information
The project consists of repairs to the I-95 southbound Gold Star Bridge. The repairs include structural steel repairs, concrete deck patching, joint replacement, illumination, and paving. Construction activities began the week of 4/17/17. Long-term lane shifts/closures will be part of the construction sequence. Additional off-peak hour lane closures may also be necessary to expedite the needed repairs.
DOT Project No. 0094-0252 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. of Plantsville, Connecticut, for a cost of $26 million on December 16, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2018.
