Construction Update - Traffic Detour for the Replacement of I-95 Bridge over West River in New Haven and West Haven
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that traffic on Kimberly Avenue in the vicinity of the I-95 overpass will be detoured at night starting Monday, June 19, 2017, through Sunday, June 25, 2017, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM in New Haven.
Detour Information
A temporary detour on Kimberly Avenue in the vicinity of the I-95 overpass, New Haven, is scheduled to start Monday, June 19, 2017, through Sunday, June 25, 2017, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The work includes the installation of advance warning signs and detour signs as well as the launching of Stage 3 steel girders over Kimberly Avenue. A detour route for Kimberly Avenue through traffic at this location has been established. Traffic will be diverted around the work area via Ella T. Grasso Boulevard.

Project Information
The project includes replacement of Bridge No. 00163A, I-95 over West River, in the towns of New Haven and West Haven, CT. The new structure will be wider to accommodate wider shoulders and median and includes three - 12’ lanes in each direction with a 14’ acceleration lane in the southbound direction. I-95 will also be reconstructed from just east of the Metro North Railroad overpass to the Long Wharf Extension overpass with a single diamond interchange replacing the current Interchanges 44 and 45 at Kimberly Avenue and Ella T. Grasso Boulevard (Route 10). Route 10 will be extended to intersect with Kimberly Avenue to provide access to the southern portion of West Haven as part of the interchange reconfiguration.

DOT Project No. 0092-0522, Reconstruction of I-95 Bridge over West River, was awarded to The Middlesex Corporation at a cost of $129,773,454.00 on November 8, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed August 31, 2018.
