Replacement of Bridge 00490, Route 66 over the Natchaug River in Windham
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction will begin on the replacement of Bridge 00490, Route 66 over the Natchaug River in Windham, on August 13, 2017.
The project consists of replacing the existing two-span bridge with a single-span steel plate girder superstructure supported on integral abutments. The proposed bridge will have a span of 170-feet with the vertical alignment of Route 66 increasing about 1.75 feet in order to accommodate the structural and hydraulic requirements. The construction sequence will consist of two construction stages and will utilize temporary traffic signals for alternating one-way traffic and a detour as required.  The work also includes the relocation of existing utilities.

Route 66 (Boston Post Road) may be closed overnight and detoured for the splicing and installation of steel girders, constructing the closure pour, demolition and removal of the existing pier and when shifting traffic between construction stages.  Additional press releases will be issued to notify the public in advance of these events.

DOT Project no. 0163-0203 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $5,815,583.75 on June 29, 2017, and is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2019.
