Safety and Traffic Operational Improvements on Route 4 in Farmington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a temporary traffic shift for staged construction will begin Monday, February 27, 2017, on Route 4 (Farmington Avenue) between Garden Street and Mountain Spring Road in Farmington. All work is “weather permitting.”

The traffic shift is necessary to facilitate the installation of new storm drainage and the relocation of existing utilities for the reconstruction of Route 4 (Farmington Avenue) in the Town of Farmington.

Project No. 0051-0260 was awarded to Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. of New Britain, Connecticut on January 20, 2016, at a cost of $12,224,171.69 and is scheduled to be completed in June 2018.  The project is being administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction District 4, Thomaston.

DETOUR / LANE CLOSURE INFO

The new temporary traffic pattern for stage construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 27, 2017 and will last for approximately three months. After which a new temporary traffic pattern will be announced and implemented for the next stage.

One lane will be maintained in each direction for Route 4 westbound and eastbound (WB and EB). Turning lanes will be maintained at the intersection of Route 4 with Garden Street, Route 10, and Mountain Spring Road.

Between Garden Street and High Street:

Route 4 EB will be shifted slightly north onto one of the previous Route 4 WB lanes. The remaining Route 4 WB lane will be maintained.

Between High Street and Mountain Spring Road:

Route 4 WB will be shifted slightly south onto a portion of the previous Route 4 EB lane. A full-width travel lane will be provided for Route 4 EB.
